EN16258

Method for calculating and declaring the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of transport services (freight and passenger transport) of the European Union.

This European standard establishes a general method for calculating and declaring energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for any transport service (goods or passengers or both). It includes general principles, definitions, system boundaries, calculation methods, allocation rules and recommendations for data with the aim of promoting standardised, accurate, reliable and verifiable declarations in which energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for transport services are calculated. It also provides examples of the application of these principles. Potential users of this standard are all persons or organisations who need to refer to a standardised methodology when reporting results on energy consumption and greenhouse gases in connection with the quantification of a transport service, in particular: transport service providers (carriers of freight or passengers); organisers of transport services (carriers subcontracting transport operations, freight forwarders and tour operators); users of transport services (shippers and passengers).
